Un laboratorio espacial describe el primer acercamiento proyectual a una porción moderada de un territorio para la realización de un elemento efímero a escala 1:1. Para éste caso, el laboratorio fue desarrollado en la plazoleta del edificio 18 en la Universidad Javeriana de Bogotá. Luego de experimentar empíricamente el lugar y de entender sus dinámicas, se concluye que éste es característico por sus propiedades de flujo y dinamismo. A pesar de ser un espacio pre-concebido para la permanencia, lo que se observa es su orden articulador para distintos lugares de la universidad, marcando así una permanencia efímera y un tránsito que demarca ciertos ejes. A partir de esto es que se elige la mejor ubicación de los módulos que conformarán el proyecto.
El propósito del proyecto es generar una atracción hacia la naturaleza que abunda en altura mientras se transita la zona. Por éste motivo se emplazan dos módulos enfrentados que proponen un portal cuya textura resulta atractiva al transeúnte observador y se convierte así en un medio para ligar al ojo con los atributos naturales del lugar. La textura de la que se habla resulta del tejido que forma un paraboloide hiperbólico.
Los materiales utilizados en el proyecto son cuerda de algod para generar el tejido y tubos de acero cubiertos de antioxidante y pintados de cobre galvanizado perforados para el anclaje de armellas que soportan el tejido. Los tubos fueron doblados en talleres especiales para adquirir la curvatura necesaria y soportar las tensiones del tejido.
A spatial lab describes de first approach to a moderate portion of a territory for the realization of an ephemeral 1:1 element. In this case, the lab was developed in the small square near de 18th building of the Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá. After experiencing the place empirically and understanding its dynamics, it is concluded that this place owns its character due to its properties of flow and dynamism. What is easily observed is a spot that articulates other places in the university, marking an ephemeral permanence and a transit that sets certain axes. This is the starting point for the design of the modules and therefore, the decision of the best location.
The main purpose of the project is to generate an attraction towards nature while walking through the place. This is why two modules are located facing each other that form a portal whose texture ends up being attractive to the observer passerby and hence, becomes a medium to bind the eye with the natural attributes of the place. The texture mentioned before results from a fabric that forms a hyperbolic paraboloid.
The materials used in the project were cotton rope that generated the fabric and steel tubes covered with antirust and painted with galvanized copper. These tubes were perforated in order to screw eyebolts for the rope to pass by. They were also properly bended in special workshops so they acquire the necessary curvature and to tolerate the fabric’s tensions.
